The (Practical) Winter Edit

I love fashion, I don’t think that is any secret, however when it comes to dressing for winter practicality tends to take precedence.

Below I have detailed some of my essentials when it comes to winter dressing. Whether you have lived in a colder climate for most of your life, or are experiencing your first season of snow I hope you find a little inspiration on how to stay warm and safe for the next few months.

  1. Aritzia Super World Super Puff – This coat is not the most figure flattering, but it is one of the warmest. After much deliberation I went ahead and splurged on this very expensive coat last year and I can truthfully say it is one of the best investments I have made in regards to my wardrobe.
  2. Aritzia Babaton Fold-Over LiteLuxe Cashmere Beanie – Hats are a must for keeping your head and ears warm. Aritzia has some of my favorite beanie’s (or should I say toques for all of my fellow Canadians) and they come in a variety of materials, colors, and shapes. This cashmere one is such a beautiful color and would pair perfectly with the Taupe Super Puff.
  3. Aritzia Babaton Rib Luxe Cashmere Mittens I never leave the house without a pair of mittens in the winter (okay maybe not never, but when I don’t bring them I truly regret it). Personally I find mittens keep my hands warmer than gloves, but you can always opt for gloves if you like that style better.
  4. Aritzia TNA Freddie Bigfoot Polar Sweater – Polar fleece sweaters are another essential to my winter wardrobe. They make the perfect light layering piece under a parka or puffer coat but are not too warm that you cannot wear them inside.
  5. Women’s Timberland Authentics Waterproof Roll-Top Boots – A good pair of winter boots rounds out my list of cold weather wardrobe essentials. There are many brands and styles to choose from but this pair of Timberland are my top choice. I bought them back in high school (eight years ago now) and they are still going strong. The only “negative” thing I have to say against them is that they aren’t the warmest, so make sure to wear a pair of high quality socks (Eddie Bauer sells my favorite and you can shop for them here).

So there you have it – five essentials for your winter wardrobe. I hope you found this post helpful and please let me know if you have any cold weather wardrobe recommendations.

On My List, Fall 2022

Like most people in this world, fall is by far my favorite season. I look forward to the crisp air, autumn sunshine, and the crunching of leaves practically all year.

Although fall tends to only last a few weeks where I live, we were blessed with an extended summer this year. Now that the weather has finally turned cooler I cannot wait to start wearing all of the autumn outfits.

Below you will find a list of a few things I have had my eye on recently.

Shirt jacket for fall

Jacket (similar) / Sweater (similar) / Jeans (similar) / Boots (similar)

When it comes to fall my uniform is usually the same – a shirt jacket, sweater and jeans combo, usually with a pair of boots or sometimes sneakers, just depending on what the plan for the day is. On this particular afternoon I was heading downtown for a haircut and to spend sometime window shopping, I wanted to be comfortable but also a little more dressy than casual so I opted for a pair of low heeled boots rather than sneakers.

Since I believe in buying pieces that you will wear time and time again, the exact clothing items I am wearing in this outfit are unfortunately unavailable. However I was able to find some amazing look-a-likes that I have included in this post.

Recipe: maple almond oat granola

This maple almond oat granola is a staple in my household. Perfect for a quick breakfast, a healthy snack or a delicious dessert. Try it paired with yogurt, fresh or frozen fruit and even ice cream (for dessert or breakfast, I won’t judge). Try this recipe out for yourself and add in any other additional nuts or seeds that you would like.

Recipe: Healthy and delicious zucchini muffins

These gluten-free, dairy-free and refined sugar free muffins are a go-to in my household. I love these fresh out of the oven with a little bit of sunflower seed butter or paired along side my breakfast. These are the perfect to bake on a Sunday afternoon, or any day of the week! I hope you enjoy.

Ingredients:

1 zucchini, grated

2 eggs

1/4 cup olive oil

3/4 cup maple syrup

1/2 cup water

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tsp baking soda

2 cups rice flour (I mix the brown rice flour and white rice flour from Bob’s Redmill)

Recipe yields: 12 muffins

Clean beauty

Clean beauty is a huge trend right now, and one that I fully support. I have been wearing mineral based makeup since I was in Junior High and it has come a long way in quality. Although I cannot compare with conventional makeup as I have never really worn it, I highly suggest switching over to clean, mineral based makeup. Below you will find a few of my favorite brands along with my favorite products of theirs.

bareMinerals – This was the first mineral makeup I ever tried, and it is always a go-to for me. Currently I do not use many of their products as I have to go into the city to purchase them, but I love their blush and mascara. Click HERE to shop their products, available at Sephora.

Jane Iredale – I cannot say enough about Jane Iredale! It is definitely a favorite of mine. Beautiful packaging, and amazing quality I always have their PurePressed Base, Tinted Moisturizer, Eyebrow Pencil, Eyeshadow Trio and Contour Kit on hand. They are a bit more expensive but in my opinion totally worth it. Click HERE to shop all Jane Iredale products.

Mineral Fusion – A brand I discovered late last year and am officially hooked on their products. The price range is more reasonable and the quality is comparable to Jane Iredale. The only negative of their products is that they do not have spf in their foundation like Jane Iredale does. I recommend trying their Pressed Powder Foundation, Liquid Mineral Concealer, and Volumizing Mascara. Shop all Mineral Fusion Makeup HERE.

Do you have any clean beauty favorites? Let me know in the comments or on Instagram.

Please always check ingredients and test a little bit of makeup on your skin before using to check for allergies or irritations.
